Improving the Quality of Life of an Entire Town Through Fitness

Community Pride and Reward

The reward component is perhaps the cornerstone of our approach. We are focused on events that showcase the community in a way that raises the “community conscience” of the citizens while promoting the community assets in a way that strengthens them. Griffith has many assets including recreational clubs, parks, bike trails and businesses. Our strategy provides an opportunity to promote these assets and put them directly and literally on the path. Events will use mapped routes where participants will visit select locations in Griffith. These locations will be sponsor participants or committee selected sites including businesses, historic features, clubs or other Griffith features.

Community Development

It is our general community development goal that our event sponsors, participants and the Town receive favorable promotion and development through additional business, participation and general awareness. However our secondary community development goal is to use our collective community awareness to change our attitude about fitness and health and encourage Griffith to continue to support those who support this effort.

Health Development

Our heath development strategy is, in part, based on the National Physical Activity Plan and the recommendations within.

The National Physical Activity Plan has a vision: One day, all Americans will be physically active and they will live, work, and play in environments that facilitate regular physical activity.

The Plan is a comprehensive set of policies, programs, and initiatives that aim to increase physical activity in all segments of the American population. The Plan is the product of a private-public sector collaborative. Hundreds of organizations are working together to change our communities in ways that will enable every American to be sufficiently physically active.

The Plan aims to create a national culture that supports physically active lifestyles. Its ultimate purpose is to improve health, prevent disease and disability, and enhance quality of life.
